Small Group Integrative Mat Work
$20 per class, minimum month long commitment. Placerville office.
75 minute class with a maximum of 5 students.

I am happy to open a group as soon as I have enough interested folks.

A Somatic Integration Process Course for Bodywork Professionals

We will meet for 6 day long classes, monthly on Wednesdays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
in our *Placerville office. Limited to six students, $100 per monthly class (I'm fine for students to pay for classes one at a time).

Fall class dates: October 22, November 19, December 17. Winter dates to follow. Suggested resources: Anatomy Trains by Thomas W. Meyers, The Trail Guide to the Body by Andrew Biel and Somatics by Thomas Hanna. Reserve your space with a deposit of $100. Instructor: Ann Sibbet, Guest Instructor: John Sibbet

I have room for two more students, and am willing to take one or two extra folks who are curious for the first class, where we are laying the foundation for the course as well as working with some of the underlying neurological structures before moving into the neuromuscular proprioceptive realm.

Topics for our first class session:

Centering Exercise
The Nature of Dura Matter, Procedure for clearing Dural Torque, Practice
The Red-light reflexive pattern or startle response
The meninges and the myelin sheath
Floor exercises for activating the meninges, principal of overcoming involuntary contractive states
Table Work: occipital/ sub-occipital region, tendon guard/ ankle (demonstration and practice)
Introduction to proprioception (musculo-skeletal), simple proprioceptive techniques (spindle cell, origin insertion), relationship to other bodywork modalities, introduction to more complex somatic integration process involving proprioceptive re-patterning.

Future classes will involve detailed work with not only individual muscles but functional movement chains and complex movement patterns with which we will apply prorioceptive techniques to bring balance in muscle tonicity as well as restore joint mobility and rhythms. Appropriate application of deep-tissue or myofascial release techniques will be discussed, as prolonged experience of dysfuctional movement patterns due to insult or injury cement into the connective tissue over time. The table work will be complimented with segments on individual movement work and complimentary therapeutic work on small equipment which clients can use in home programs.

Kindly don't be put off by the abundance of anatomical description, I wish you to have a passable understanding of musculo-skeletal anatomy and a willingness to build your knowledge.

Suggested reading for first class (not required) Somatics by Thomas Hanna.

I am deeply committed to sharing information and skills which offer the opportunity for us and our clients to be more fully engaged in the body (somatic process) in a conscious, integrated and loving manner. I believe this can lead to a greater level of discernment and connection to the self (not to mention isn't it great to get out of pain), and therefore a greater opportunity to connect more deeply with spirit, community and nature.
